Mount Olive, N.C. – Southern Wesleyan fell in overtime to the Mount Olive Trojans in a 2-1 final.

The Warriors posted 11 shots and five shots on goal in the loss.  Kayla Doyle and Ashley Romanowski led the team with four shots and two shots on goal apiece.  Romanowski went on to score the loan goal for the Warriors.  Courtney McNeill played in goal for the Warriors allowing two goals while making a save.

How It Happened

Mount Olive took a shot early, but the Warriors defense blocked the shot to keep the Trojans from scoring.  Ashley Romanowski followed with a shot, but the Trojans goalkeeper, Abigail Ross, kept the ball from the net.  The Trojans struck first in the game, scoring a goal to take a 1-0 after 20 minutes of play had passed to lead going into the half.

The Warriors countered quickly at the start of the second half of play.  Ashley Romanowski took a shot on the goal from the top right corner of the box, driving the ball into the goal from 25 yards out to allow Southern Wesleyan to tie the game.  Helen Schweiger and Marla Burgos both took shots, but the Trojan defense kept the balls from meeting the net and giving Southern Wesleyan a lead.  Back-to-back shots on goal by Kayla Doyle were saved by goal keeper Sterling Morris to keep the Warriors back.  Neither team was able to pull ahead to force the Warriors and Trojans into overtime.  Five minutes into overtime, the Trojans pulled ahead to win the game 2-1.

Southern Wesleyan will start Conference Carolinas post season as the #7 seed and will travel to Chowan to take on the #2 seed Hawks on October 30 at 2 p.m.
