How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan threatened early, with senior Beth Spence taking a shot on the goal. However, the Barons goalkeeper Kaylee Jones kept the ball from the net. Charlie Brown, Marla Burgos, Kayla Doyle and Ashley Romanowski all put shots up, but none found the net. The Warriors maintained control of the ball, keeping the Barons from taking the ball to their side or putting a shot up. With 17 minutes remaining in the first half, Aline Troyano drove the ball into the net to give Southern Wesleyan a 1-0 lead. Troyano's goal sparked the Warriors offense as Ashley Romanowski went one-on-one with the goal keeper to drive in the Warriors second goal of the afternoon. Minutes later, Charlie Brown passed the ball to Rachel Curtis who shot it into the net to give Southern Wesleyan a 3-0 lead. With four minutes remaining in the first half of the game, the Meo Owens passed the ball on a free kick to sophomore Rachel Curtis. Curtis got the ball past the goalkeeper to give the Warriors a 4-0 lead at half time.
The Warriors started strong in the start of the second half of the game with Rachel Curtis taking a shot that went wide. Shots by Helen Schweiger and Emily Corriher followed Curtis', but neither shot found the net. Southern Wesleyan fought on, with senior Kayla Doyle taking a shot on goal that was saved by Kaylee Jones. The Barons countered with Caitlyn Bassett taking a shot on goal, but Anna-Marie Garrett scooped the ball up to prevent Brewton-Parker from putting points up. Shots by Leesee Chastain and Marla Burgos made it to the goalkeeper, but Kaylee Jones kept them from crossing. Southern Wesleyan kept the Barons at bay, winning the non-conference game in a 4-0 final.
