Warriors Split Doubleheader with Tornado

CENTRAL, S.C.- Southern Wesleyan left 14 runners on base in its 7-4 loss and 6-3 win against King.

In game one, the Tornado (14-24, 8-8 CC) scored one run in the top of the second inning for a 1-0 lead. The Warriors (18-22, 7-9 CC) tied the game in the bottom of the fourth as Lizzie Fela drove in Allison Barbee with a double to left center. King regained the lead in the top of the fifth as they scored three more runs. Southern Wesleyan responded in the bottom of the fifth by scoring three runs to tie the game. The Tornado added one run in the sixth and two runs in the seventh for a three-run lead. The Warriors were able to put two runners on base, but were unable to drive in any runs to seal the win for King.

Fela went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two doubles. Barbee batted 1-for-2 with one run and two walks. Sara Sweatt went 1-for-4 with one RBI and one run.

In game two, King scored first again as they put up one run in the top of the third. Southern Wesleyan tied the game in the bottom of the fourth as Ashleigh Wilbur singled to drive in Katie Byrd. The Tornado scored one run in the top of the fifth to regain the lead. The Warriors tied the game again in the bottom of the fifth as Natalie Johnson scored off of a ground out by Barbee. They scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a four-run lead heading into the seventh. In the top of the seventh, King was able to score one run with two outs and they still had two runners on base. With the tying run at-bat, Southern Wesleyan forced a pop out to clinch the victory.

Barbee went 1-for-4 with four RBIs and a double. Sweatt batted 1-for-3 with one run. Wilbur went 1-1 with two walks, one run, and one RBI.

Hunter Hoskins (10-7) pitched a complete game and allowed three runs off of ten hits.

The Warriors next travel to North Greenville April 12 for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
