Warriors Split Doubleheader with Bobcats

CENTRAL, S.C.- Southern Wesleyan batted .150 in its 8-3 loss and 4-0 win against Lees-McRae.

In game one, the Warriors (17-21, 6-8 CC) scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning as Katie Byrd drove in Lizzie Fela and Allison Barbee with a double to left field. The Bobcats (7-28, 3-9 CC) gained a two-run lead as they scored one run in the second and three runs in the third. They added four more runs in the top of the fifth for a six-run lead. Natalie Johnson scored off of an error by the third baseman in the bottom of the fifth to cut the deficit to five runs. Southern Wesleyan registered no hits in the final two innings to seal the win for Lees-McRae.

Byrd went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a double. Barbee batted 1-for-3 with one run.

In game two, the Warriors got on the board in the bottom of the fourth as Fela singled to drive in Sweatt. They added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth off of an RBI double by Sweatt and a two RBI ground-rule double by Barbee. They held the Bobcats to two hits and forced them to leave two runners on base to seal the victory.

Sweatt went 2-for-3 with two runs, one RBI, and a double. Barbee batted 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a double. Dallas Collins went 1-for-3 with one run.

Hunter Hoskins (9-7) picked up her career-best ninth win of the season as she pitched seven innings, allowed five hits, and had two strikeouts.

Southern Wesleyan next hosts King tomorrow April 9 for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
