Box Score CENTRAL, S.C.- Southern Wesleyan batted .277 in its 9-6 win against Shorter.
The Hawks (13-29) scored one run in the top of the first inning. The Warriors (15-30) responded with three runs in the bottom of the first. Shorter added another run in the top of the second to make it 3-2. Matt Costa scored off of an error by the third baseman in the bottom of the third to stretch the lead to two runs.
The Hawks scored one run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth to take a one-run lead. Southern Wesleyan responded by scoring three runs in the sixth and one run in the seventh to make the game 8-5 with two innings to go. Shorter cut the lead to two by scoring one run in the top of the eighth, but Drew Carson singled to score DiMarkus Sanders in the bottom of the eighth to stretch the lead back out to three runs. The Hawks were able to put two runners on base with one out in the top of the ninth, but the Warriors forced a fly out and a ground out to seal the win.
Costa went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBIs, and a triple. Sanders batted 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run. Avery Mahon went 2-for-5 with one run.
Tyler Parry (1-2) picked up his first win of the season as he pitched 2.1 innings of relief, allowed no earned runs off of one hit, and had four strikeouts. Jordan Finster recorded his fourth save of the season as he pitched one inning, allowed one hit, and had one strikeout.
Southern Wesleyan next hosts King for a three-game series April 22-23 with the first game at 6 p.m. on Friday. Friday's game is Senior Day and Saturday's doubleheader will feature the final Kid's Day of the season and is also ULF Awareness Day.
