Warriors Fall to Flying Fleet

DUE WEST, S.C.- Southern Wesleyan left 12 runners on base in its 6-3 loss to Erskine.

The Flying Fleet (27-10, 13-3 CC) scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning for an early 2-0 lead. The Warriors (11-22, 2-14 CC) responded with one run in the top of the second as Luke Hostetler scored off of an error by the shortstop. Erskine added another run in the bottom of the second to stretch their lead back to two runs. Southern Wesleyan cut the deficit back down to one as Hostetler singled to drive in Matt Costa.

The Flying Fleet added one run in the bottom of the sixth and two runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 6-2 lead. In the top of the ninth, Drew Carson scored off of an error by the third baseman to cut the deficit to three runs with only one out in the inning and two runners on. Brad Bisko struck out swinging for the second out of the inning. Justin Brew was hit by the first pitch of the at-bat to load the bases with two outs and the tying run on first base. Conner Ewing grounded out to the pitcher to seal the win for the Flying Fleet.

Hostetler went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run. Costa batted 1-for-3 with one run and two walks.

Tyler Rio (2-5) pitched six innings, allowed two earned runs off of eight hits, and had one strikeout.

The Warriors finish up their three-game series against Erskine April 4 with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
