Box Score 2 CENTRAL, S.C. - Southern Wesleyan batted .472 in its 8-7 and 10-2 wins against Converse.
In game one, The Warriors (16-18, 5-7 CC) got on the board first as they scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Sara Sweatt scored on an error by the first baseman and Lizzie Fela drove in Allison Barbee with a double to give them a 2-0 lead. The Valkyries (6-20, 1-11 CC) responded with five runs in the top of the second to give them a 5-2 lead. Southern Wesleyan regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth as they scored four runs for a one-run lead. Converse tied the game in the top of the third with one run, but the Warriors were able to re-gain the lead once again in the bottom of the fourth as Barbee hit a solo home run and Shelby Stroud singled to drive in Fela. The Valkyries cut the deficit to one run in hoin the top of the seventh to seal the victory.
Barbee went 2-for-4 with three runs, one RBI, one home run, and one double. Fela batted 3-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs, and two doubles. Byrd went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Natalie Johnson (2-4) pitched 5.1 innings in relief, allowed two runs off of five hits, and had one strikeout.
In game two, Southern Wesleyan scored one run in the bottom of the second as Michaela Wickham singled to score Byrd. Converse scored two runs in the top of the third for a one-run lead. The Warriors regained the lead for good in the bottom of the third as they scored three runs. They followed that up with three more runs in the fourth and three more runs in the fifth to close out the game.
Byrd went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs, and one double. Barbee batted 1-for-3 with three RBIs, one run, and one homerun. Sweatt went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, one run, and one double.
Hunter Hoskins pitched five innings, allowed zero earned runs off of eight hits, and had a career-high nine strikeouts.
Southern Wesleyan next hosts Georgia Gwinnett April 5 for a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
