Warriors Drop Doubleheader to Lions

FRANKLINS SPRINGS, Ga.- Southern Wesleyan left 20 runners on base in its 3-0 and 5-4 losses to Emmanuel.

In game one, the Lions (7-35, 5-19 CC) scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning and one run in the bottom of the fifth. They held the Warriors (13-30, 3-21 CC) to three hits and forced them to leave eight runners on base.

J.J. Julian (1-4) pitched six innings, allowed two earned runs off of three hits, and had eight strikeouts.

In game two, Southern Wesleyan got on the board in the top of the first as Matt Costa scored off of an errant throw. Luke Hostetler and Conner Ewing both hit solo home runs in the second and third innings respectively to give them a 3-0 lead. Emmanuel tied the game as they scored two runs in the third and one run in the fourth. Hostetler singled to score Brad Bisko in the top of the fifth to regain the lead for the Warriors. The Lions tied the game again as they scored one run in the bottom of the seventh. Southern Wesleyan was able to put two runners on base in the top of the ninth, but they were unable to drive in any runs. Emmanuel hit a walk-off single with one out in the bottom of the ninth to clinch the win.

Hostetler went 4-for-5 with two RBIs, one run, and a home run. Ewing batted 3-for-5 with one RBI, one run, and a home run.

Bryce Bearden pitched 6.1 innings, allowed four runs off of eight hits, and had four strikeouts.

The Warriors next host Anderson April 19 at 6 p.m.
