Crusaders Sweep Doubleheader Against Warriors

CENTRAL, S.C.- Southern Wesleyan allowed 18 hits in its 7-0 and 9-6 losses to Belmont Abbey.

In game one, the Crusaders (15-25, 9-9 CC) scored one run in the top of the fourth and six runs in the top of the fifth. They held the Warriors (18-24, 7-11) to four hits and forced them to leave five runners on base.

In game two, Belmont Abbey got on the board first as they scored one run in the top of the second. Southern Wesleyan scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth and two runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 5-1 lead. They gave up seven runs in the top of the sixth as 15 batters batted in the inning for the Crusaders to give them an 8-5 lead. Lizzie Fela singled to score Jessica Burks to cut the deficit to two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Belmont Abbey scored one run in the top of the seventh to stretch their lead out to three runs. The Warriors were able to put two runners on base with only one out in the bottom of the seventh, but they were unable to drive in any runs to seal the win for Belmont Abbey.

Fela went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, two runs, and a home run. Kelly Cooper batted 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Allison Barbee went 1-for-3 with one run and a double.

Hunter Hoskins (10-8) pitched 5.2 innings, allowed two earned runs off of seven hits, and had five strikeouts.

Southern Wesleyan next hosts Pfeiffer tomorrow April 15 for Senior Day with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
