Saints Sweep Doubleheader Against Warriors

CENTRAL, S.C.- Southern Wesleyan batted .204 in its 6-5 and 10-0 losses to Limestone.

In game one, the Saints (13-8, 3-0 CC) scored two runs in the top of the first inning. The Warriors (11-14, 0-4 CC) responded with one run in the bottom of the first as Sara Sweatt stole home. Limestone stretched its lead to two runs with another run in the top of the third. Southern Wesleyan tied the game in the bottom of the fourth as Kelly Cooper drove in Allison Barbee with a sacrifice fly and Ashleigh Wilbur drove in Lizzie Fela with a sacrifice fly. The Saints regained the lead with a two-run homerun in the top of the fifth. Sweatt scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to one run in the bottom of the fifth. In the top of the sixth, Limestone stretched the lead back to two runs with an RBI double. Barbee drove in Sweatt with an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to one. With the winning run on base, Southern Wesleyan grounded out to end the game.

Sweatt went 3-for-4 with three runs. Barbee batted 2-for-3 with one RBI, one run, and a double.

Natalie Johnson (1-4) pitched 4.1 innings, allowed five runs on five hits, and had three strikeouts.

In game two, the Saints scored one run in the top of the first. Neither team scored again until the top of the sixth when Limestone added four runs and added another five runs in the top of the seventh. Southern Wesleyan left four runners on base in the game and had three hits.

The Warriors next travel to Emmanuel March 17 for a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
