Box Score 2 GAFFNEY, S.C.- Southern Wesleyan batted .216 in its 5-2 win and 10-5 loss against Limestone.
In game one, the Saints (11-16, 2-7) got on the board first as they scored one run in the bottom of the second inning. The Warriors (10-13, 2-7) tied the game in the top of the fourth as Matt Costa scored off of a wild pitch. Limestone scored another run in the bottom of the fourth for a 2-1 lead. Southern Wesleyan scored another run off of a wild pitch in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 2-2. They added three more runs in the top of the sixth as Trevor Walker, John Garrett, and Luke Hostetler all scored off of two different errors by the Saints. Limestone was able to load the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh and the Warriors subbed Bryce Bearden in to pitch. He struck out two consecutive batters with the winning run at the plate to seal the win for Southern Wesleyan.
Avery Mahon went 2-for-4 with one run. Hostetler batted 1-for-2 with one run and two walks.
Andrew Howard (2-1) picked up the win as he pitched one inning and allowed no runs off of one hit. Bearden recorded his first save of the season as he pitched 0.2 innings with two strikeouts.
In game two, Limestone got off to a strong start as they scored four runs in the second, three runs in the third, and one run in the fourth inning for an 8-0 lead. Southern Wesleyan was able to cut the lead to three runs with one run in the top of the sixth and four runs in the top of the seventh. The Saints stretched their lead to five runs as they added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth. The Warriors loaded the bases in the top of the ninth, but they were unable to drive in any runs to seal the victory for Limestone.
Mahon went 1-for-4 with one RBI and one run. Costa batted 2-for-4 with one RBI and a triple. Justin Brew went 1-for-2 with one run.
Josh Core (0-4) pitched three innings and allowed seven runs off of seven hits.
Southern Wesleyan next travels to Truett-McConnell March 15 for a 2 p.m. game.
