Box Score 2 CENTRAL, S.C.- Southern Wesleyan batted .204 in its 6-4 and 4-1 losses to Georgia Southwestern State.
In game one, the Hurricanes (11-9) scored one run in the top of the first inning. The Warriors (8-8) tied the game in the bottom of the second as Kelly Cooper doubled to drive in Lizzie Fela. Georgia Southwestern added another run in the top of the fifth to stretch their lead to two runs. Allison Barbee hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Natalie Johnson in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead back down to one run. The Hurricanes scored another run in the top of the seventh to make it a two-run game. Southern Wesleyan tied up the game in the bottom of the seventh as Barbee hit a two-run home run to leftfield. The next two batters flied out to send the game into extra innings.
Georgia Southwestern scored two runs in the top of the eighth to regain the lead. The Warriors went three up and three down in the bottom of the eighth to seal the win for the Hurricanes.
Barbee went 1-for-3 with three RBIs, one run, and one home run. Sara Sweatt batted 3-for-4. Johnson went 2-for-3 with one run scored.
Johnson (0-1) pitched eight innings, allowed five earned runs off of 14 hits, and had seven strikeouts.
In game two, Georgia Southwestern scored one run in the top of the first. Southern Wesleyan scored their only run in the bottom of the first as Sweatt scored off of an error by the third baseman. The Hurricanes added one run in the top of the second, top of the fifth, and top of the seventh to clinch the victory.
Hunter Hoskins (5-3) pitched seven innings, allowed four runs off of 12 hits, and had two strikeouts.
The Warriors next host Point March 4 for a doubleheader that starts at 3 p.m.
