Crusaders Down Warriors in Series Opener

CENTRAL, S.C.- Southern Wesleyan allowed seven runs in the top of the seventh inning in its 8-3 loss to Belmont Abbey.

The Warriors (7-6, 0-1) got on the board first in the bottom of the third as they scored all three of their runs. Brad Bisko advanced to third on a wild pitch and then scored off of an error by the catcher, Connor Ewing singled to drive in DiMarkus Sanders, and Devin Patrick hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield that drove in John Garrett. The Crusaders (10-3-1, 4-0) scored two runs in the top of the fifth and one run in the top of the sixth to tie the game. They took over the game with seven runs in the top of the seventh for a commanding 8-3 lead. Southern Wesleyan only had one hit and left one runner on base to seal the victory for Belmont Abbey.

Garrett went 2-for-3 with one run. Sanders batted 1-for-4 with one run.

J.J. Julian started the game, pitched five innings, allowed two runs off of five hits, and had four strikeouts.

The Warriors wrap up their three-game series with Belmont Abbey with a doubleheader tomorrow Feb. 27 that starts at 12 p.m.
