Warriors Sweep Cavaliers with Back to Back Walk-off Victories

CENTRAL, S.C.- Brad Bisko scored the winning run in game one and hit a walk-off single in game two in Southern Wesleyan's doubleheader sweep 10-9 and 9-8 against the University of Virginia-Wise.

In game one, the Cavaliers (3-3) got on the board first in the top of the first inning as they scored two runs. The Warriors (7-5) responded with two runs in the bottom of the second as Trevor Walker hit a double and drove in Luke Hostetler and Bisko grounded out to drive in Julio Justo. They added six more runs in the bottom of the fourth to stretch their lead to six runs.

The University of Virginia-Wise added three runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to cut the lead to one run. DiMarkus Sanders singled to right field to drive in Bisko in the bottom of the eighth to stretch the lead back out to two runs. The Cavaliers scored two runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game. In the bottom of the ninth, Justo grounded out to shortstop on the first at-bat of the inning. Walker singled on the next at-bat, but was later thrown out at first to give the Warriors two outs in the inning. Bisko singled to centerfield on the next at-bat and then stole second to give Southern Wesleyan a batter in scoring position. Sanders drove in Bisko as he reached first base on a fielder's choice to give the Warriors the victory.

Bisko went 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs. Walker batted 3-for-5 with three RBIs and one run. Connor Ewing went 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run.

Tyler Rio started the game, pitched 5.1 innings, allowed six earned runs off of ten hits, and had four strikeouts. Jordan Finster (1-0) picked up his first win of the season as he pitched 2.0 innings and allowed two runs off of four hits.

In game two, the University of Virginia-Wise struck first in the top of the fourth as they scored one run. They added three more runs in the top of the fifth to stretch their lead to four runs. Southern Wesleyan responded in the bottom of the fourth with four runs to tie the game. The Cavaliers scored four runs in the top of the sixth to lead by four runs for the second time in the game. They held the Warriors scoreless in the bottom of the sixth, so Southern Wesleyan would have one more inning to make a comeback as they trailed by four runs going into the bottom of the seventh.

The Warriors started off the bottom of the seventh with a single by Sanders. John Garrett walked to move Sanders to second base. On the next at-bat, a wild pitch moved Sanders to third and Garrett to second. The Cavaliers walked both Ewing and Matt Costa to score Sanders. They walked Devin Patrick with the bases loaded and scored Garrett, which cut the lead down to two runs. Hostetler popped out to the shortstop, but Ewing was able to score on an error by the second baseman. Southern Wesleyan tied the game 8-8 on the next at-bat as Trevor Walker hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Costa. With the winning run on third base and two outs, Bisko hit a walk-off single that scored Patrick to seal the win for the Warriors.

Sanders hit 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs. Garrett batted 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Patrick went 1-for-2 with one RBI and one run.

Josh Core started the game, pitched 5.1 innings, allowed seven earned runs off of 12 hits, and had one strikeout.

 

The Warriors next host North Georgia Feb. 24 at 4 p.m.
