Warriors Split Doubleheader with Hurricanes

AMERICUS, GA.- Southern Wesleyan allowed 12 runs in its 9-0 loss and 5-3 win against Georgia Southwestern.

In game one, the Hurricanes (9-9) scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, four runs in the fourth, and three runs in the fifth inning. The Warriors (7-5) allowed 12 hits.

In game two, Georgia Southwestern struck first in the bottom of the first as they scored one run. Southern Wesleyan tied the game in the top of the second as Katie Byrd scored off of a passed ball. The Hurricanes added one run in the bottom of the second and in the bottom of the third. In the top of the fifth, Allison Barbee hit her first home run of the season and drove in two runs and Kelly Cooper singled to drive in Lizzie Fela to give Southern Wesleyan a 4-3  lead. They added another run in the top of the sixth as Barbee singled to drive in Sweatt. The Warriors only allowed one hit in the bottom of the seventh as they forced two ground outs and threw a runner out at second to seal the win.

Barbee went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, one run, and one home run. Sweatt batted 3-for-4 with two runs. Byrd went 2-for-3 with one run.

Southern Wesleyan next hosts Columbia College Feb. 26 for a doubleheader that starts at 3 p.m.
