Lions Down Warriors

CENTRAL, S.C.- Southern Wesleyan batted .187 in its 3-2 loss to Mars Hill.

The Lions (9-2) got on the board first in the top of the first inning as they scored one run. The Warriors (5-4) tied it up in the bottom of the third as John Garrett grounded out and drove in Trevor Walker. Mars Hill re-took the lead as they scored one run in the top of the fifth. Southern Wesleyan tied the game again in the bottom of the sixth as Devin Patrick tripled to drive in Matt Costa. The Lions added another run in the top of the eighth to give themselves a 3-2 lead. The Warriors failed to score in the last two innings as they had one hit and left one runner on base.

Garrett went 1-for-4 with one RBI. Patrick batted 1-for-4 with one RBI.

Andrew Howard started the game, pitched five innings, allowed two runs off of seven hits, and had four strikeouts.                

Southern Wesleyan next hosts Virginia-Wise for a three-game series Feb. 19-20. The doubleheader on Feb. 20 will also be Kids' Day. Check the baseball page on the website for more information.
