Warriors Drop Doubleheader to Cobras

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- Southern Wesleyan was outscored by 15 runs in its 6-1 and 16-6 losses to Coker.

In game one, the Cobras (7-0-1) got on the board first as they scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Warriors (2-4) responded with one run in the top of the fourth as Lizzie Fela scored off of a fielder's choice. Coker added two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to stretch their lead to five runs. Southern Wesleyan went three up and three down in the top of the seventh to close out the game.

Allison Barbee went 2-for-3 and Fela went 1-for-3 with one run.

Hunter Hoskins (1-2) started the game, pitched 5.1 innings, allowed five earned runs off of ten hits, and had one strikeout.

In game two, the Warriors scored two runs in the top of the first as Fela singled to drive in Sara Sweatt and Tiffany Cathey. The Cobras responded with four runs in the bottom of the first. Southern Wesleyan countered with three runs in the top of the second as Sweatt singled to drive in Natalie Johnson, Barbee doubled to score Sweatt, and Barbee scored off an error by the second baseman. Coker came back and scored nine runs in the bottom of the second to lead by eight runs. Jessica Burks grounded into a double play and drove in Katie Byrd in the top of the third. The Cobras added three more runs to stretch their lead to ten runs.

Sweatt went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Byrd hit 2-for-2 with one run. Barbee went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run.

Lucy Wolff (1-1) started the game, pitched 1.1 innings, and allowed nine runs off of nine hits.

The Warriors next host Humber in their home opener Feb. 16 in a doubleheader that starts at 5 p.m.
