Warriors Down Trojans with High-Scoring Seventh Inning

ANDERSON, S.C.- Southern Wesleyan scored seven runs in the top of the seventh inning in its 15-10 win against Anderson.

The Warriors (5-0) got on the board first as they scored three runs in the top of the second. Drew Carson singled up the middle to drive in Avery Mahon and Connor Ewing, John Garrett hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to drive in Zach Mondoux, and Luke Hostetler singled to drive in Carson. The Trojans (0-2) countered with two runs in the second, two runs in the third, and one run in the fourth to lead by two after four innings. Southern Wesleyan re-took the lead with one run in the top of the fifth and two runs in the top of the sixth.

The Trojans scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to re-take the lead as they led 9-8 at the end of the inning. The Warriors came back and scored seven runs in the top of the seventh to create a six run advantage. They held Anderson to only one run in the eighth and ninth innings to seal the victory.

Carson went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs. Mondoux hit 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs. Ewing went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

Bryce Bearden started the game, pitched four innings, allowed three earned runs off of eight hits, and had two strikeouts. Roth Mathews (1-0) pitched 0.2 innings, allowed one hit, and had one strikeout.

Southern Wesleyan next travels to Francis Marion for a three-game series Feb. 12 and Feb. 13. They will play a doubleheader Friday at 2 p.m. and a single game Saturday at 12 p.m.
