Warriors Fall to Anderson Saturday Evening

Box Score

CENTRAL, S.C. - The women's soccer team opened the regular season on Friday night, playing Anderson University at Childs Field. Despite a valiant effort, the Trojans offense was too much to handle and Anderson prevailed 7-1. With the win, Anderson moves to 2-0 on the season and the Warriors fall to 0-1.

Idoia Agirre started the scoring for Anderson with a goal at the 26:24 mark. Abbey Mills extended the lead to 2-0 about 13 minutes later to lead the Trojans to a 2-0 halftime lead. Minutes into the seconf half, Agirre scored back to back goals to extend the lead to 4-0. Beth Spence, a sophomore midfielder for the Warriors, put Southern Wesleyan on the board at the 49:23 mark. Spence's shot, from just inside midfield, was a beauty that curled into the upper right side of the net out of the reach of the Trojan goalkeeper. It was her first goal of the season and the first goal for Corey Morrell's team this season. Kenzie Van Heusen would then tack on to Anderson's lead with two goals and Agirre would add another.

The Warriors will return to action Thursday, Sept. 10 at Columbia International before returning home to play Friday, Sept. 11, against West Georgia. The game, held at SWU's Childs Field, is set for 6 p.m.
