Box Score MARS HILL, N.C. - The Southern Wesleyan women's soccer team fought but fell 3-1 to Mars Hill Wednesday on the road. The Warriors fall to 1-7 on the year while Mars Hill improves to 2-7 with the win.
The teams played a scoreless first half of action. Mars Hill, however, got hot around the 65 minute mark, as the Lions scored three goals within two and a half minutes of play. Breona Tate scored the first goal at the 63:11 mark on a breakaway after a steal. 1:24 later, Tate would pass the ball to teammate Julia Johnson who extended the lead to 2-0 with a goal of her own. Then 1:10 later, Johnson would again find the net, this time off of a rebound from a teammate's shot. However, Grace Taylor scored in the 78th minute to put the Warriors on the board. The goal, off of a pass from Sarah Baldwin, was Taylor's second of the season, a team high.
In total, Mars Hill took 26 shots to Southern Wesleyan's 10 and had a 6-2 advantage on corner kicks. Courtney McNeill talllied 13 saves in the outing.
The Warriors return to action Saturday, Oct. 3 at Limestone at 5 p.m. Limestone is 8-1 on the season and 5-0 in Conference Carolinas. In the Saints' last outing they suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of Anderson in double overtime by a score of 3-2.
