Warriors Have Successful Day, Grant Wins 5,000 Meter Race

CENTRAL, S.C. - Southern Wesleyan had a successful day on the course, competing as the host team in the Warrior Invitational. The Warriors hosted Columbia International, Bob Jones, Truett-McConnell, Toccoa Falls, and Warner. 

In the 5,000 meter run the Warriors finished second as a team with a total time of 1:55:07. Bob Jones won with a time of 1:52:47. 

"We ran well for it to only be our second meet," said head coach Greg Thiel. "We ran a solid race and I like where we are at this point in the season."

Southern Wesleyan's Alana Grant won the 5,000 meter race with a time of 20:49.50, 26 seconds ahead of Alexis Zwilling of Columbia International. Grant's time beat her previous season high of 21:58 from the Palmetto State Cross Country Festival. Michelle Last had the second best finish for the Warriors, finishing sixth with a time of 22:18.35, a 12 second impovement from her first race of the season. Sarah Cash finished 11th with a time of 23:14.67. Ashley Rhodes and Becky Tarone finished 23rd and 24th while Brandie Jackson, Ann-Marie Martin, Jenna Karel and Malecha Cousar finished 27-30, respectively. Jordon Hargrave picked up a 39th place finish while Olivia Bush came in 42nd place. 

The Warriors return to the course Oct. 10 in the Gene Mullin Invitational in Greenville, S.C.
