Box Score COLUMBIA, S.C. - After about an hour and a half of lightning delays, the Southern Wesleyan women's soccer team picked up their first win of the season with a 1-0 win over Columbia International on the road on Thursday. With the win, the Warriors move to 1-1 on the season and the Rams fall to 4-1 after suffering their first loss of the season.
When the game finally got underway after the delays, the Warriors came out firing. Grace Taylor netted the game winner only 10 minutes into the game, and the score would hold to clinch the win for the Warriors. The goal was the first of the season for Taylor and the second of the young season for Southern Wesleyan.
"That was a good game," head coach Corey Morrell noted. "I'm proud of our team. We played hard and played together. We created some good chances, but need to work on finishing a little better. It was a good win and a full team effort!"
SWU recorded 13 shots to CIU's 11 with eight shots on goal compared to the Rams' two. Courtney McNeill recorded seven saves in goal and is 1-1 on the season as well.
Morrell's team is back in action Friday, Sept. 11 as they host West Georgia at 6 p.m. Admission is free to all home women's soccer games.
