Warriors pound out 15 hits, 10 runs in win over Anderson

ANDERSON, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan baseball scored in double digits for the second straight game on Tuesday, defeating Anderson 10-8 to even the season series at two games apiece.

The Warriors put up a double digit run total for the fifth time this season and pounded out 15 hits against the Trojans. Daniel Coleman blasted his team-leading seventh bomb of the year in the sixth, a three-run shot as the Warriors came back from down 5-4 with a five-run sixth.

Justin Brew knocked in a run in that sixth inning with an infield single, he finished the game with three hits and two RBIs. He also scored twice. Dan Williams also picked up an RBI-single in the sixth, bringing home Brew. Coleman followed two batters later his a three-run shot to left, his second hit and second run scored of the evening.

The Warriors had six players with at least two hits in the game and six also knocked home a run. Seven different players scored a run in the game.

SWU jumped out to an early lead in the third, putting up four runs on five hits. Mike Hyman started the inning with an infield single and was followed by Brew, who walked. Julio Lara doubled in a run before being thrown out on the bases. Williams followed with a double of his own to bring home a run. After a single from Coleman, Johnny Ponder doubled in a run. Matt Costa followed with a sacrifice fly as the Warriors took a 4-0 lead.

The Trojans responded with a five-spot in the fourth before the Warriors answered in the sixth. Anderson added a run in the sixth as L.J. Newman hit his second homer of the game. The Warriors got that run back in the seventh as Brew knocked in Costa with a single into right.

In the seventh, Anderson left the bases loaded as Newman bounced into a fielder's choice to end the inning. The Trojans' Nick Bernardo cut the four-run deficit in half with his second homer of the game, a two-run shot to right.

Jordan Finster came in to pitch the ninth and after giving up a leadoff walk followed by a base hit, the sophomore wiggled out of trouble with a pair of pop outs and a groundout. The save is the seventh on the season for Finster. Andrew Howard picked up the win in relief after tossing two innings. Howard allowed two hits and two walks but allowed just one run and struck out one.

Mike Hyman set the school record for career steals with the first of two steals in the fourth inning. After reaching first on an error, Hyman stole second, his 89th steal of his career. He went on to take third as well in the inning. Hyman already set the single season school record for stolen bases this season with his 34th, he currently has 41 this season and 90 in his career.

The Warriors will wrap up the season on Wednesday as they host Truett-McConnell for a single game beginning at 6 p.m.
