CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan had to rally in both games but came away with two Conference Carolinas victories on Saturday, sweeping Barton 6-5 and 11-3 (5 innings).
SWU trailed early in both games but was able to snap their five-game slide. The Warriors are scheduled to be in action again on Friday as they travel to Pfeiffer for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
Game One
The Warriors trailed 5-1 after 3.5 innings but rallied to score two in the fourth and fifth and took the lead in the sixth as Taylor Fox knocked in Allison Barbee for the game-winning run.
Fox had three hits in the game including her first career home run, a two-run shot in the 5th that tied the game at 5-5. Fox also singled and scored in the first. Her three hits and three RBI led the team.
SWU scored twice in the fourth as Sara Sweatt led off the inning with a triple to right center. Ashleigh Wilbur followed with an RBI groundout that made the game 5-2 in favor of the Bulldogs. Two batters later it was Barbee who blasted her second homer of the year, this one to left to make the game 5-3. Barbee finished with two hits and two runs scored.
Allison Parker tossed six innings in the contest to pick up her first win of the season to improve to 1-2. Parker overcame six walks and eight hits to allow just five runs, only three of which were earned.
Game Two
In game two the Bulldogs again took an early lead with a three spot in the second thanks to an error to start the inning. All three runs charged to Callie Wayne in the frame were unearned. After the error Barton picked up three hits. After the second they were limited to just one hit as Wayne improved to 4-2. The senior pitcher tossed her third complete game of the season on Saturday, striking out two.
The Warriors put up seven runs in the third as they sent 11 batters to the plate. Six different players picked up RBIs in the inning. SWU had six hits in the inning as Wayne and Michaela Wickham both doubled.
SWU added three in the fourth as Ashleigh Wilbur knocked in two with a single to center. Allison Barbee brought home Lizzie Fela to give the Warriors a 10-3 lead. In the fifth Sara Sweatt ended the game with a single to right to score Fox.
The Warriors finished with 13 hits in the contest as five players each had two hits. Fox had a pair of singles and also scored twice. Alyssa Mendoza had two hits and scored twice as well, as did Fela. Wilbur drove in three with two hits as Barbee also had two hits and knocked in two as well.
