MISENHEIMER, N.C. – For the fifth straight doubleheader the Warriors split the twinbill, taking game one against Pfeiffer 5-0 before falling 7-6 in extra innings in the second game.
The Warriors return home for two double dips this week, hosting North Greenville on Tuesday at 5 p.m. before welcoming in Point University on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
Game One
A pair of long balls lifted the Warriors past the Falcons in game one, 5-0 as Hunter Hoskins tossed her first career shutout.
Allison Barbee put the Warriors on top in the fourth with a solo shot to center with one out in the inning. That was just the third hit for the Warriors in the game as they finished with six. The Falcons collected seven hits but left nine on base.
A pair of errors contributed to the two runs for SWU in the sixth as Alyssa Mendoza and Barbee both reached on infield errors. Those proved costly as Lizzie Fela followed Barbee with a two-run, two-out double down the right field line to put SWU up 3-0.
While the Warriors grabbed the lead it was Hoskins in the circle stranding Falcons on the bases. Pfeiffer went down in order just twice, in the fourth and seventh innings. In both the fifth and sixth innings the Falcons loaded the bases but a pair of force outs on the base paths helped to leave the bases juiced both innings. With the win Hoskins improves to 4-0 on the year.
In the seventh Haley Collins blasted her first homer of the season, a two-run shot to left as Hoskins had singled one batter earlier.
Game Two
The Warriors took an early 4-0 lead only to come back to force extra innings with a run in the 7th before falling 7-6 in eight innings.
A pair of errors helped lead to the first run for the Warriors in the first as Taylor Fox scampered home as Sara Sweatt reached on an error. Two batters later Lizzie Fela knocked home Sweatt with a single up the middle to give the Warriors 2-0 lead.
In the third it was Allison Barbee belting her second home run of the doubleheader, a two-run shot to left to put the Warriors up 4-0. For Barbee it was conference leading 7th homer of the season. Pfeiffer pulled within one at 4-3 with a run in the fourth and two in the fifth.
SWU added another run in the sixth to take a 5-3 lead as Natalie Johnson knocked home Ashleigh Wilbur. The Falcons scored three unearned runs on a home run by Rachel Crowder after an error prolonged the inning.
The Warriors weren't done though as Barbee doubled home Sweatt to tie the game 6-6. In the eighth Michaela Wickham was cut down at the plate after starting the inning on second. The Falcons scored on a single by Jaclyn Boever.
Barbee finished the game with two hits and three RBI. Natalie Johnson and Sara Sweatt also picked up two hits as Sweatt scored three times.
Allison Parker went the distance for the Warriors to fall to 5-4 on the season. Parker allowed nine hits and seven runs, but just three earned. She struck out two and walked two.
