MARS HILL, N.C. – Southern Wesleyan baseball fell behind early and never recovered in a midweek tilt against Mars Hill, falling 9-3 to the Lions on Wednesday afternoon.
Mars Hill put up four runs in the first and added another in the second before the Warriors could push across a run. In the third Daniel Coleman led off the inning with his team-tying third homer of the season, a shot to left center. Two batters later it was Mike Hyman getting in on the act with his first round tripper of the season to make the score 5-2.
Zach Brown retired the next eight in a row before Hyman reached in the sixth with a bunt hit. The senior then managed to steal second and third before scoring on a base hit by Luke Hostetler. Hyman was the lone Warrior with a multi-hit game, his eighth of the year. The Warriors managed just six hits in the game.
Tyler Rio started for the second straight game on the mound, falling to 0-7 with the loss. He allowed four hits, five runs, four earned and walked five. He struck out three. Zach Brown worked six innings for the Lions to pick up the win and improve to 3-3.
The Warriors will stay on the road this weekend, travelling to North Greenville for a three-game series beginning on Friday at 3 p.m.
