CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan softball split a pair of games against Georgia Southwestern in nonconference action on Monday at Varsity Field.

The Warriors dropped game one to the Hurricanes 7-6 in eight innings after GSW scored four times in the seventh to force extras. SWU came back in game two to win 3-2 with two runs in the fourth.

SWU is back in action on Thursday as they travel to Georgia Gwinnett for a doubleheader at 4 p.m.

Game One
The Warriors took a 3-2 lead after the first inning as Lizzie Fela doubled in two and Sara Sweatt singled in one. Callie Wayne hit a one-out solo home run in the second to push the lead to 4-2. Michaela Wickham and Taylor Fox knocked in runs in the fourth as the Warriors took a 6-2 lead.

SWU looked to be cruising to victory before the Hurricanes scored four times in the seventh. GSW pounded out six of their 15 hits in that inning. A double by Rachel McElroy brought home Chelsea Littlejohn who started the inning on second via the international tiebreaker.

The Warriors had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth. Lizzie Fela started on second and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Ashleigh Wilbur but the Warriors weren't able to get Fela home as Savannah Carlise struck out two of the final three batters to end the game.

Game Two
The Warriors trailed 2-1 after the first inning but stormed back with two runs in the fourth to pick up a 3-2 win. Sara Sweatt led off with a single and advanced to second on a throwing error. Alyssa Mendoza followed with a single after Sweatt stole third to pull to 2-1.

Neither team was able to do much in the second and third as the Hurricanes' Carlise retired seven straight heading into the fourth. In that fourth inning Allison Barbee reached on an error. After a pop out and an a single by Shelby Stroud preceeded a run-scoring single by Ashleigh Wilbur. Allison Parker picked up an RBI single as the Warriors took the lead, 3-2.

Parker retired seven straight starting with the end of the third before the Hurricanes loaded the bases in the sixth but Parker battled back to get Mary Beth Wilson to ground out to end the inning. The Hurricanes put runners on in the seventh but Parker shut the door to pick up the complete game victory.

With the win Parker improves to 2-3 on the season. In her seven inning effort Parker allowed nine hits and two runs. She struck out two and walked two.
