Box Score CENTRAL, S.C. - The Southern Wesleyan women's soccer team fell 6-0 at the hands of Belmont Abbey on Saturday afternoon at Childs Field. The Warriors fall to 1-11 and 0-8 in conference play while the Crusaders remain a perfect 8-0 in Conference Carolinas and improve to 10-2-1 overall on the season.
The Crusaders got goals from six different players in the game, starting in the sixth minute when Meghan Philp, the leading scorer for Belmont Abbey, scored from about 18 yards out off a pass from teammate Laura Shelton. 2:30 later Belmont Abbey would add another as Shelton scored a goal of her own off a pass from Cassidy Coutinho. Kooba Richard scored the third goal in the 33rd minute off a Rachel Lambert pass and Richard assisted on the fourth goal as Nicole Ferren knocked one in.
The Crusaders would take a 4-0 lead into the half and would score a fifth just over four minutes into the second half as Coutinho scored on a header after Megan Nanney crossed it in. In the 57th minute the Crusaders second leading scorer, Cierra Skyers, snuck ne in the bottom right corner of the goal as she went one-on-one with Warrior goalkeeper Courtney McNeill after a pass from Philp.
The Crusaders had the advantage in shots, 28-0, and corner kicks, 8-0. Southern Wesleyan goalkeeper Courtney McNeill had six saves on the day.
The Warriors return to action Wednesday, Oct. 21 at Toccoa Falls at 4 p.m. Toccoa Falls is 7-7 on the year.
