Box Score CENTRAL, S.C. - Ariail Lankford scored her first goal minutes into the game, but ultimately the Southern Wesleyan women's soccer team would fall 3-1 to Converse College on Wednesday evening at Childs Field. With the loss the Warriors fall to 1-10 overall and 0-7 in Conference Carolinas and the Valkyries improve to 7-6 and 3-4 in conference play.
Lankford's goal came in the eighth minute of play as she dribbled into the box and fired a shot out of the reach of the Converse keeper. Converse would follow with three goals in the next 19 minutes of play. In the 18th minute Nicole Doolittle scored off a pass from Darby Boyd to tie the game at one goal apiece. Less than four minutes later the Valkyries would take the lead as Mariah Elliott scored. Boyd would score a goal of her own in the 27th minute to stretch the lead.
The 3-1 lead would hold. Courtney McNeill saw a lot of action in goal and recorded 14 saves in the contest. Overall, Converse outshot the Warriors 31-6 and had a 14-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Southern Wesleyan returns to action Saturday, Oct. 17 against Belmont Abbey at 3 p.m. in the first game of a double header. The men's matchup will follow the women's game. Admission is free to all home soccer games.
