Box Score MT. OLIVE, N.C. - The Southern Wesleyan women's soccer team fell 3-0 to Mt. Olive on the road on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Warriors fall to 1-9 overall and 0-6 in Conference Carolinas and the Trojans, who have won five games in a row, improve to 6-3-2 overall and 5-1-2 in conference play.
1:33 into the game Alex Wetherholt scored the first Mt. Olive goal from about 18 yards out on the first shot of the contest. Two and a half minutes later Wetherholt assisted on an Ellie Barnes goal from about six yards out. The Trojans' 2-0 lead would hold until the half. In the 64th minute Christine Rocchio added on to the Mt. Olive lead with a goal from 30 yards out off a pass from Carly Siney Moran. In the 83rd minute Brittany Woodhouse nearly scored for the Warriors as Mt. Olive goalkeeper Stephanie McCoy dove to preserve the lead for the Trojans.
Mt. Olive had an 18-5 advantage in shots and had nine corner kicks to Southern Wesleyan's two. Both teams committed seven fouls. Courtney McNeill recorded nine saves in the outing for the Warriors.
The Warriors return home for two consecutive matches. Southern Wesleyan will host Converse Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 8 p.m. before welcoming Belmont Abbey Saturday, Oct. 17 at 3 p.m.
