#teamSWU women's soccer drops season opener

Box Score

ANDERSON, S.C. – The season got off to a familiar start for the Southern Wesleyan women on Thursday night, which wasn't a good thing. After losing six times by a score of 2-0 a year ago the Warriors dropped their season opener 2-0 against Anderson at Trojan Stadium.

The Warriors were again limited in their offensive attack but held tough for nearly 50 minutes on the defensive side.  The game was delayed at halftime for about an hour due to a lightning delay and in the first five minutes after the delayed break AU's Rachael Whaling found the back of the net after receiving a cross from Emily Cowan.  Whaling added another goal in the 68th minute.

SWU's Krista Anonie was tested often between the pipes and similar to a year ago was able to hold off the opposition fairly well.  The junior made 11 saves on 13 shots on target from the Trojans.  AU was able to take 26 total shots to just three for the Warriors.  Two of the Warriors' three shots were on frame but Sadie Lancaster was up to the task.

The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday as they take on Bob Jones in Greenville at 1 p.m.  The home opener for the Warriors won't come until Sept. 24 against Lees-McRae, which will also double as their Conference Carolinas home opener.
