Grant, Last finish Top-10, SWU takes 3rd at Hyder-McMahill Invite

MONTREAT, N.C. – A pair of freshmen runners landed in the top-10 of the Hyder-McMahill Invitational for Southern Wesleyan women's cross country as the Warriors finished 3rd in the eight team field.

Freshman Alana Grant led the team for the second consecutive race, placing 8th overall after running a 20:55.31 on the 5K course.  Fellow freshman Michelle Last placed 10th overall with a time of 21:20.05.  Senior Sierra Zemanick was just outside the top-10 with a 13th place after running a 21:45.97.

All five of the scorers for SWU were in the top-20 as another freshman, Sarah Cash, finished 4th on the team and 16th overall with a time of 22:25.52.  Junior Emily Harper placed 19th after clocking in at 22:52.62.

Appalachian State ran away with the team title after taking the top five positions, led by Shelby Howell's time of 19:29.99.

SWU's Sky'Keya Wimberly came across the line in 29th place with a time of 23:27.54 while Brandi Jackson placed 42nd after clocking in at 24:18.45.  Ashley Rhodes rounded out the SWU team with a time of 26:30.62.

The Warriors will take next weekend off before hosting the annual Warrior Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 27.
