Gwinn paces Warriors at Hyder-McMahill Invite

MONTREAT, N.C. – Southern Wesleyan men's cross country team got back on the course on Saturday, eight days after the season-opener and took 7th in the Hyder-McMahill Invitational hosted by Montreat College.

The Warriors were led by Robert Gwinn who placed 15th overall with a time of 28:59.27, ten seconds faster than his time a year ago in the same race.  Stephen Spearman and John Fredrickson also finished in the top-30 with Spearman turning in a time of 29:18.34, good enough for 21st overall.  Fredrickson placed 27th after running a 29:38.49 on the 8K course.

The Warriors finished four points behind Warren Wilson for 7th place in the 8 team field.  Emmanuel won the meet after putting three in the top four.  D'Andre Smalley won the race by seven seconds over teammate Rashaun Tanner. Smalley clocked in at 26:53.56.

Andrew Hochhalter finished 41st for the Warriors with a time of 31:17.26 while Jon Gibbon clocked in at 31:39.97, good for 46th.  Jacob Rivera was 49th with a time of 31:45.50 as Erik Delgado (53rd, 33:20.42) and Brennan Cameli (54th, 34:23.67) rounded out the SWU runners.

The Warriors will take next weekend off before hosting the annual Warrior Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 27.
