Warriors sweep Truett-McConnell behind powerful offense

CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan picked up their fourth straight win and second straight doubleheader sweep, taking down Truett-McConnell 13-3 and 8-7 on Thursday night.
The Warriors won all four games against the Lady Bears on the season after sweeping TMC at their place in February.

SWU is scheduled to host Brewton-Parker on Friday at 5 p.m. in an SSAC matchup, pending weather.

Game One
The Warriors scored four in the first and added nine in the third as they cruised to a 13-3 win in just five innings.  Lizzie Fela and Ashleigh Wilbur pounded out three hits each and Fela drove in three.  Sara Sweatt added a two-run homer in the first, her second of the year.  She finished with three RBI and two runs scored.

Wilbur and Allison Barbee added two RBI a piece as the Warriors won by virtue of the mercy rule for the second straight game.  The Warriors had 12 hits, the 15th time they've recorded 10 or more hits in a game.  Eight of the nine players in the batting order recorded a hit as Katie Jacoby recorded two to go along with Fela and Wilbur's multi-hit effort.

Jenn Jacoby tossed her eighth complete game of the season, allowing just three runs over five innings to improve to 6-5 on the year.  The sophomore gave up seven hits and walked one while striking out three.

Game Two
The Warriors scored again early but had to overcome a 5-3 deficit to pull out an 8-7 win.  SWU scored three times in the first but the Lady Bears responded with five in the second.  It wasn't until the fourth when the Warriors put up four runs to re-take the lead at 8-5.

SWU added another 11 hits to their total as Katie Jacoby had three of them herself.  The freshman knocked in four on the game including two on a double in the fourth that capped the four-run inning.  She also singled in a run in the first and forced in a run with a bases loaded walk in the third.

Sara Sweatt also had a multi-hit game with a pair of singles.  Lizzie Fela scored three times and also had a double to go along with two RBI.

Allison Parker picked up the win to improve to 4-2 on the year with five innings of five-hit ball.  Five of the six runs charged to her were unearned after an error and a passed ball contributed to all five runs scoring for TMC in the second inning.  Allison Barbee earned her third save after pitching the seventh inning.
