BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – The Warriors stormed back to secure a win in Saturday's season finale, 6-5, over Blue Mountain.
Mike Hyman hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth after Tyler Bice doubled with one out in the inning to deliver the win for the Warriors. Daniel Chappell was summoned from the bullpen and picked up the save, allowing just a single in the inning.
Hyman and Bice both finished the game with two hits as did Matt Arant. Both the Warriors and the Toppers had 10 hits in the game. Blue Mountain took the early lead with three first inning runs but the Warriors chipped away with single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to tie the game at 3-3.
Bice picked up an RBI groundout in the third as Andrew Howard scored after leading off with a single. In the fourth J.J. Julian knocked in Stephen Wyatt with a sacrifice fly and in the fifth it was Arant bringing in Bice with an RBI groundout.
Blue Mountain took the lead at 4-3 in the sixth but the Warriors responded on a sac fly from Wyatt to score Bice. The Toppers took the lead back in the eighth, setting the stage for Hyman's game-winning homer.
Matt Buss got the start and pitched 7.2 innings allowing nine hits and four earned runs. He struck out five and didn't walk a batter. Justin Adams came in from the bullpen in the eighth to strike out the only batter he faced. Adams got the win to finish the year at 3-3.
The Warriors close the season at 16-36 overall and 10-20 in their final season in the SSAC.
