Box Score DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Southern Wesleyan fell behind early and never recovered on Wednesday night, falling to NCAA Division II North Georgia by a score of 17-6. The Warriors return home this weekend to host conference rival No. 25 Mobile.
North Georgia put up 12 runs in the first two innings including seven in the first, scoring three unearned runs in the process as the Warriors made two of their three errors in the first two innings. SWU (12-25) managed to pick up 10 hits but left 11 men on base. Matt Arant had three hits and an RBI to lead the Warriors.
SWU got on the board in the second with a pair of runs as Arant knocked in one with a bases-loaded single. He was followed by a bases-loaded walk to Julio Lara that forced in the second run with two outs. Those runs cut the deficit to 7-2 but UNG added five more in the bottom of the second.
The Warriors came back with four more in the third, again scoring all four with two outs. Mike Hyman knocked in a run with a single, one of his two hits on the day. After an error prolonged the inning, two more runs scored as Matt Arant reached on another error by UNG. Lara followed with a single to load the bases and Johnny Ponder knocked in the final run with a single.
North Georgia added another run in the sixth and four in the eighth. Josh Bryan (1-1) picked up the win for UNG with five innings of relief work, giving up just four hits and no runs. Justin Adams (1-3) took the loss for the Warriors.
SWU returns home to host No. 25 and SSAC counterpart Mobile over the weekend. Friday will feature a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. and Saturday will have a single nine-inning game at 1 p.m.
