MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Southern Wesleyan softball dropped a pair of SSAC contests to No. 2 Auburn-Montgomery on Saturday. AUM won game one 8-3 and took game two 8-2.
The Warriors are scheduled to host Emmanuel on Monday at 3 p.m. and then face the Lions in Franklin Springs on Tuesday. SWU will close out the regular season on Friday at home against No. 20 Brenau.
Game One
The Warriors fell behind early and were never able to catch up as the Warhawks scored in five of the six innings. SWU scored in only the third inning, plating three runs to cut the margin down to one at 4-3. AUM got one run back in the bottom of the third before pulling away with two in the fifth and one in the sixth.
SWU was limited to five hits as Callie Wayne and Katie Jacoby had two hits apiece. The Warriors scored their first run on a bases loaded hit by pitch followed by a two-run single by Lizzie Fela. A pair of pop outs ended the inning with two runners left on base. SWU left seven on base in the game.
Cassie Daniels picked up the win to improve to 14-2 on the year for AUM and Jenn Jacoby took the loss to fall to 6-11. Two of the AUM runs were unearned against Jacoby as two passed balls in the second led to both runs scoring.
Game Two
The Warhawks jumped on the Warriors early and often, scoring four in the first and adding two more in each of the second and third innings. SWU came back to score a single run in the fifth and sixth innings.
The Warriors were held to six hits in the game, two each from Savannah Carpenter, Allison Barbee and Allison Parker. Barbee hit her fifth home run of the year to lead off the fifth and in the sixth Barbee drove in Ashleigh Wilbur for the Warriors' other run.
Barbee also pitched five innings of relief of Allison Parker. Barbee allowed seven hits and struck out four over her five innings. Parker took the loss and falls to 5-9 on the year while Kayla Hale gets the win to improve to 3-1.
