CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan softball suffered a pair of set backs on Wednesday afternoon at the hands of Point University, losing 6-0 and 6-4.
The Warriors will hit the road this weekend to battle Martin Methodist and No. 2 Auburn-Montgomery in crucial SSAC doubleheaders. SWU is currently on the outside looking in on the SSAC Tournament, sitting a game behind Brewton-Parker.
Game One
The Warriors couldn't get anything going against Point pitcher Bridgette Bush, picking up seven hits but no runs for just the third time all year.
The Skyhawks scored twice in the second inning and two in the sixth while scoring one each in the fifth and seventh innings. Lizzie Fela picked up a pair of hits but the Warriors left two runners in the first after singles from Carpenter and Fela. SWU left the bases loaded in the seventh.
Allison Parker took the loss (5-7) for the Warriors after giving up 10 hits and five runs in five innings. Bush improved to 6-6 with the complete game shutout.
Game Two
The Warrior offense finally got going in the sixth inning but it was too late to overcome an early deficit in the 6-4 loss.
SWU scored three times in the sixth as Fela got things going with a one-out double, scoring Allison Barbee. Ashleigh Wilbur followed with a double to score Fela and after a strikeout, Shelby Stroud doubled to bring in the third run of the inning.
Point took the lead with two runs in the first inning, thanks partially to a SWU error. The Warriors cut into the lead with a run in the fourth as Barbee doubled in M.C. Garrett from first. The Skyhawks came back with a three-run fifth and added to their lead with a run in the top of the sixth.
Four of the five hits for the Warriors were doubles but Point pounded out 11 hits. Jordan Edge took the win to improve to 6-9 while Jenn Jacoby fell to 6-9 with the loss.
