Warriors split with No. 19 Brenau

GAINESVILLE, Ga. – Southern Wesleyan softball split a doubleheader with SSAC rival and No. 19 Brenau on Tuesday afternoon, dropping game one 3-1 before rallying to win 9-7 in game two.


Game One 
Savannah Carpenter and Sara Sweatt each had three hits in game one as the Warriors outhit the Golden Tigers 12-5.  SWU had their chance to take the lead in the sixth, trailing 2-1 with the bases loaded and two out.  Lizzie Fela hammered a pitch but unfortunately the batted ball hit Carpenter who had no time to react and the Warriors were done in the sixth.  Allison Barbee drove in the lone run of the game for SWU in the third.


Game Two 
The Warriors continued to hit, slugging 15 base hits including a grand slam from Haley Collins en route to a come-from-behind 9-7 victory, their second win over a ranked team this year.
SWU put up four runs in the second and four more in the sixth, adding an insurance run in the seventh.  Brenau answered SWU with a five-run second to take a 5-4 lead and added to that with a run in the fifth.  The four-run sixth for the Warriors gave them an 8-6 lead before each team score in the seventh.


Katie Jacoby had three hits and Sweatt added four more.  Jacoby knocked in two runs and score two herself.  Barbee added two hits as did Ashleigh Wilbur as eight Warriors had hits in the game.  Barbee also picked up the save with two innings of relief work.  Callie Wayne earned the win to improve to 5-2 out of the bullpen.
