MT. VERNON, Ga. – Southern Wesleyan earned a big series win over SSAC rival Brewton-Parker over the weekend, dropping Friday's affair 8-4 before rebounding to sweep Saturday's double-header 2-0 and 7-2.
The Warriors (8-11, 4-2 SSAC) return home for a full slate of games, beginning on Tuesday as they host former SSAC foe Truett-McConnell for a double-header beginning at 3 p.m. Wednesday the Warriors will take on Anderson University at Flour Field at the West End in Greenville at 5 p.m. Over the weekend SWU will host Martin Methodist for a three game set.
Game One – Box Score
A pair of big innings gave the Barons the victory in game one of the series, scoring three in the fourth and four in the sixth to pull out an 8-4 win. SWU's Matt Craig was hit hard in the contest, giving up 10 hits and seven earned runs. He did strike out six in 5.1 innings of work.
Tyler Lollis and Daniel Williams had multi-hit games for the Warriors as Lollis also drove in a run, scored a run and stole a base in the game. SWU had seven hits in the game. The Warriors committed four errors as well.
Game Two
Matt Craig had his best outing as a Warrior with a complete game shutout of BPC. The junior tossed seven innings of four-hit ball, striking out four and not walking a batter. Buss earned his second victory of the season and lowered his ERA to 2.63 on the season.
Matt Arant came up with two of the team's four hits for the Warriors and scored a run as J.J. Julian knocked in both runs, one in the third and one in the fourth. Brewton-Parker walked four in the game as Kory Brooker took the loss.
Game Three
Late-inning magic propelled the Warriors to the series win, 7-2 in Saturday's second game. The Warriors put up five runs in the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie. Andrew Howard made the start and was effective with five innings of four hit and one run ball. Jamie Eckstein came out of the bullpen to take his first win of the season with a three inning effort. Eckstein allowed three hits and one run during his appearance.
The Warriors finally got the bats going with nine hits as Mike Hyman and Lollis each had two hits in the game. Lollis drove in three and scored a run and also stole a base. Hyman scored twice as did Arant.
