Softball sweeps past Truett-McConnell

CLEVELAND, Ga. – Southern Wesleyan softball swept Truett-McConnell in a double-header on Tuesday night, winning 6-2 in eight innings in game one and 11-4 in game two.

The Warriors will be off until March 7 when they open up their home slate by hosting Coastal Georgia at 3:30 p.m.  That will double as the SSAC opener for the Warriors as well.

Game One
The Warriors got on the board early as Lizzie Fela belted her fifth home run of the season, a two-run bomb scoring Allison Barbee who walked.  The Lady Bears didn't get on the board until the fifth, taking advantage of a walk and a hit batter in the inning.  Brianna Crawford delivered the big hit, a two-run single.

The game headed to extras and started with Allison Barbee being placed on second per the international tie-breaker.  Fela followed with a single and Sara Sweatt followed with an RBI double to right field.  Another run scored on an error and Katie Jacoby followed with an RBI single of her own.  Anna Wilbourne added a sacrifice fly to give the Warriors plenty of cushion as the Lady Bears were set down in order in the bottom of the eighth.

Game Two
The Warriors overcame an early deficit in game two to complete the sweep with an 11-4 victory.  Truett-McConnell scored a run in each of the first and second innings but SWU responded with a six spot in the fourth and three more in the fifth to pull away.  The Warriors added two more in the seventh.

The Warriors took advantage of three errors in the fourth inning to score six runs as SWU had just three hits in the inning.  M.C. Garrett had the lone run-scoring hit in the inning as most runs came home via the error.

It was more of the same in the fifth as two errors from the Lady Bears helped contribute to the three runs.  Ashleigh Wilbur picked up an RBI on a groundout and Jacoby had a sacrifice fly.  Barbee and Fela each had an RBI single in the seventh inning.
