Zemanick paces Warriors at NCCAA Nationals

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Southern Wesleyan women's cross country finished 12th at the NCCAA National Meet hosted by Houghton College on Saturday.

Senior Sierra Zemanick paced the team with a 17th place finish as the Warriors improved from 25th a year ago to 12th.  The field shrunk from 25 teams to 17 this  year but still a marked improvement for the women this season. Zemanick crossed the finish line in 19:19.6, nearly a minute ahead of the next closest Warrior.

Rachel Prutsman from Roberts Wesleyan won the race on the 5K course with a time of 17:54.2.  Roberts placed six in the top 11 to run away with the team title.  Dallas Baptist took second, 68 points back.

The Warriors finished just two points behind Mississippi College and finished ahead of Houghton who took 13th.

Freshman Alana Grant took 44th with a time of 20:14.6 and was followed by fellow freshman Michelle Last who finished with a time of 20:49.9.  Kira Emmett was 82nd overall and fourth on the team with a time of 21:23.9 and another freshman, Shy'Keya Wimberly, took 87th with a time of 21:45.7.  Sarah Cash (22:22.7) and Emily Harper (22:24.1) also ran but did not factor into the team score.
