BELMONT, N.C. – Southern Wesleyan women's soccer couldn't follow up Tuesday's win with a second, falling to Belmont Abbey 6-0 in Conference Carolinas action.
The Warriors were shutout for the sixth time on the season after recording their first shutout of the year against Toccoa Falls on Tuesday. The Crusaders got on the board early and often on Saturday, scoring four times before halftime including in the first three minutes of the match.
Belmont Abbey added goals in the 10th, 15th and 27th minutes before scoring twice in the second half. Cassidy Coutinho scored twice and assisted on one more as five different players found the back of the net.
Courtney McNeil made 11 saves in goal for the Warriors as the Crusaders took 31 shots in the match. McNeil recorded double-digit saves for the second time in five starts. The Warriors faced 17 shots on goal from the Crusaders while taking just two, both from Grace Taylor.
SWU is back in action next Saturday, hosting Limestone at 3 p.m.
