McDonald Leads Warriors Past Skyhawks

Box Score

CENTRAL, S.C. – Abbie McDonald picked the right time to score her first goal of the season as Southern Wesleyan pulled out a 1-0 win over Point University on Tuesday night.

McDonald netted her fourth career goal in the 55th minute as Emily Nicholson's corner found McDonald streaking to the near post and knocking the ball back to the far post for the game's only goal.  The Warriors (2-3-1) didn't create a lot of chances up top as most through balls and balls over the top were just out of reach of Grace Taylor.  Katie Barsotti was forced to make only one save in goal for the Skyhawks (2-5-1).

Point was able to take 17 shots in the match, most from outside of 20 yards that were not much of a threat.  The Skyhawks saw their best chance, a shot from distance by Luisa Alvarez, hit the underside of the crossbar and bounce out.  SWU goalkeeper Krista Anonie made a valiant effort but was unable to reach the ball.  Anonie made four stops including one from close range to preserve the shutout, her first of the season.

Southern Wesleyan will open SSAC play this weekend as they travel to No. 17 William Carey on Friday before wrapping up the weekend at Belhaven on Saturday.
