BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. – Southern Wesleyan women's cross country improved on a 9th place finish last weekend to take 5th at the Hyder-McMahill College Invitational hosted by Montreat College on Saturday.
Wingate won the meet, dominating the field by taking the first five spots as well as putting all seven of their runners in the top-15. They swept the field and finished with 15 points. SWU finished with 138 points, just 12 behind Lincoln Memorial.
Sierra Zemanick just missed a top-10 finish by two seconds claiming 11th in the field of 103 with a time of 20:48. The junior has led the Warriors in both races so far this season. Sophomore Rebecca Watson turned in a top-20 time, taking 17th with a time of 21:18. Kira Emmett and Caroline Hudson finished 30th and 32nd with times of 22:35 and 22:40. Emily Harper rounded out the scorers with a time of 24:01, good for 48th place.
The Warriors will take a week off before hosting the Warrior Invitational on Saturday, September 28. The men's race is set to begin at 9 a.m.
