Box Score CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan women's soccer took an early lead but couldn't hold it against Columbia College, losing 3-1 on Saturday in the Warriors' home opener.
Columbia scored the final three goals, including notching the equalizer just 43 seconds after Ruva Chimedza's second goal of the season got the scoring started in the 29th minute. Ashley Tanner scored the tying goal and also the game-winner in the 40th. Jessica Martinez tallied the final goal in the second half.
The Warriors (0-1-1) had several opportunities, especially early as they won six corners, four of which were in the first five minutes. SWU would get only two more corners the rest of the way. Columbia forced the issue with Tanner and Martinez up top. The duo combined for nine of the team's 15 shots. Tanner put five of her six on frame and Martinez had all three on target.
Krista Anonie played well in goal for the Warriors, making seven saves. All three goals the attacking player had worked their way behind the back line and Anonie had little hope. The Warriors had only two shots on target on the day and took only eight shots in the match.
The Warriors will host Erskine College on Thursday at 7 p.m. before embarking on a two-game road swing.
