Box Score PULASKI, Tenn. – Southern Wesleyan women's soccer stood toe-to-toe with the No. 9 team in the country for 80 plus minutes on Thursday night but Martin Methodist pulled away late for a 2-0 win.
The tough loss for the Warriors drops them to 2-8-1 overall and 0-5-0 in Southern States Athletic Conference play. The RedHawks improve to 8-1 overall and 4-0 in the SSAC.
Anna Becerra found the back of the net first for MMC in the 83rd minute, heading in a corner off the foot of Anthoula Papaioannou. The final goal came with just 10 seconds left in the match as the Warriors were pushed forward looking for the equalizer and gave up a quick counter.
Despite being out-shot 21-4 in the match the Warriors held their ground against the mighty RedHawks. Krista Anonie made seven stops in goal for SWU while MMC made three saves.
SWU will be back in action on Saturday as they head to Bethel (Tenn.) for a 2 p.m. match.
