BEAUFORT, S.C. – The Southern Wesleyan men's cross country team finished 16th of 24 teams at the Sandshark Invitational hosted by USC-Beaufort on Saturday.
The Warriors were led for the first time this season by John Fredrickson in a time of 27:02. Fredrickson placed 65th in the field of 212. Josh Thatcher was just 17 seconds behind Fredrickson but placed 76 in a time of 27:19.
SWU just edged Georgetown (Ky.) 476-477 to finish in 16th place. Bryan College won the team competition and had the individual champion in Anthony Simpson who ran the 8K course in a time of 24:41.
Nick Shear was the third finisher for the Warriors, taking 99th overall in a time of 27:58. Stephen Spearman and Drew Welch round out the scorers for SWU as Spearman placed 115th in a time of 28:42 and Welch was 121st in a time of 29:02.
The Warriors will take a week off before heading to Clinton, Miss. to run in the SSAC Championships on Nov. 9.
