Home Runs by Evatt and Bowling Power Warriors Past Bobcats on the Road

Milledgeville, GA – Southern Wesleyan picked up their third win of the season as they defeated the Georgia College Bobcats in a 12-1 final score.

The Warriors totaled 13 hits in the victory over the Bobcats.  Seven of the which were extra base hits.  Kade Bowling led the Warriors by going 2 for 4 at the plate with both a double and a home run.  The other home run of the game came off the bat of senior Nolan Evatt.  Both Ethan Shimmel and Matthew McCaffrey had triples, and Josh Long and Luke Taylor joined Bowling with doubles in the game.  Southern Wesleyan walked eight times and stole five bases.

Lukas Arvantides pitched a complete game on the mound for the Warriors.  Arvantides struck out two batters during the seven inning game and only allowed one run.

How It Happened

The Warriors went on the offensive early in the first inning as Tristan Tillman hit a single up the middle.  Tillman advanced to second on a passed ball before stealing third base to get into scoring position.  Nolan Evatt walked and then stole second.  A wild pitch allowed Tillman to come in to score and put Evatt on third base.  With Evatt ninety feet from home, Ethan Shimmel hit a triple into right center field to extend the Warriors lead to 2-0.  Perry Dyer followed by hitting the ball up the middle for a single to bring Shimmel in to score the Warriors third run of the game.  Josh Long walked to put two runners on base for Matthew McCaffrey.  McCaffrey hit the ball into right center field for a triple that allowed both Dyer and Long to come in to score.  A ground out by Seth Pettett scored McCaffrey to give the Warriors a 6-0 run lead over the Bobcats.

In the second inning, Southern Wesleyan extended on their lead.  With one out, Nolan Evatt picked up his third home run of the season as he sent the ball over the right center field fence.  Ethan Shimmel walked and then advanced to second as Perry Dyer hit a single through the left side of the field.  With two outs, Kade Bowling hit a double down the right field lone to allow Shimmel to score.

The Warriors went on the attack again in the fourth inning.  With one out, Josh Long hit the ball into left field for a single.  Kade Bowling got the ball just over the right field fence for a two run home run.  Matthew McCaffrey walked and then stole second base.  Luke Taylor put the ball into play for a single and then advanced to second on an error.  On the error, McCaffrey came in to score to put the Warriors ahead 11-0.

Southern Wesleyan struck again in the sixth inning.  Josh Long sent the ball down the left field line for a double.  Long then advanced to third as Seth Pettett singled.  Long then stole home to give the Warriors a 12-0 run lead over the Bobcats.

Georgia College got their first run on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning as a single by Vick allowed Besterman to come in to score.  However, the Warriors won the game in a 12-1 final score. 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will host the King Tornado in a double header on February 20 beginning at 3pm.  They will then wrap up the series against the Tornado on February 21.  The Warriors will travel to Anderson, SC on February 24 as they take on the Anderson Trojans.  They will then return to Dr. C Keith Connor Field on February 27-28 to host the UNC Pembroke Braves.
