Warriors Drop Road Contest Against Saints

St. Augustine, FL – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Flagler Saints on Saturday morning in an 87-59 final score.

The Warriors shot 42.6% from the field.  Trinity Nesbitt led the team with 13 points.  Behind her, Kyra Price had nine points and Makayla Raines had eight.  Southern Wesleyan totaled 10 assists in the game with Savanna Nicholson leading the team with three.  The Warriors stole the ball away from the Saints six times.  Both Princess McCauley and Emily Gamon had two steals.

Southern Wesleyan collected 28 rebounds during the game.  Sophomore DeYana Hayes led the team with five rebounds.  Both Trinity Nesbitt and Emily Gamon had four rebounds.  The Warriors had three blocks in the game.

How It Happened

The Saints were first on the board as Emerson Kutz laid the ball up into the basket.  DeYana Hayes passed the ball out beyond the arc to Makayla Raines.  Raines knocked down a three pointer to give Flagler a 3-2 point lead.  Flagler pushed on as they took a three point lead on a jump shot by Gabby Bush.  However, a three pointer by Kyra Price tied the game up at six.  The Saints would not back down as Carleigh Grimm hit a three pointer and then Marley Smith laid the ball up into the basket.  Layups by Price and Danielle Earley kept the Warriors within eight. 

An early layup by Emerson Kutz allowed the Saints to extend their lead to 25-17.  Flager pressed on as Marley Smith put up a couple mid-range jump shots.  Kutz knocked down another three pointer.  The Warriors stopped the Saints run as Kyra Price laid the ball up into the basket.  With just under four minutes on the clock, Gabby Bush hit a three pointer to give the Saints a twenty-point lead.  Makayla Raines made several free throws and then Princess McCauley laid the ball up into the basket.  However, Flagler led 51-29 going into the locker room.

Flagler started the scoring in the third quarter as Natalie Herrin laid the ball up into the basket.  Peyton Looky knocked down a mid-range jump shot, but the Saints quickly answered as Herrin hit a three pointer.  The Saints would not relent as Gabby Bush laid the ball up into the basket.  Princess McCauley laid the ball up and was fouled in the process to earn the and-one basket.  With just over two minutes on the clock, Danielle Earley collected a pass from McCauley and laid it up into the basket.

An early foul sent Natalie Herrin to the free throw line early in the final quarter.  Herrin hit both shots to extend the Saints lead to 73-42.  Trinity Nesbitt laid the ball up into the basket.  With just over seven minutes left in the quarter, Makayla Raines made a layup.  Savanna Nicholson passed the ball under the basket to Nesbitt who laid it up into the basket.  Aspen Weeks hit a three pointer, but the Warriors answered with a three pointer out of the hands of Nesbitt.  Southern Wesleyan fought back as Peyton Looky laid the ball up into the basket.  Emily Gamon laid the ball up into the basket in the final seconds of the game, but the Warriors fell to the Saints in an 87-59 final score.

 

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will open up Conference Carolinas action on the road as they travel over to Rome, GA to take on the Shorter Hawks at 5:30pm.  They will remain on the road on November 29 as they travel to Dahlonega, GA to take on the University of North Georgia Nighthawks.
